NHS England supporting record numbers of people living with dementia diagnosis
Over Half a Million Diagnosed with Dementia
As of August 2025, 506,549 people in England have received a dementia diagnosis, up from 490,163 the previous year. This reflects NHS England’s continued focus on earlier diagnosis and tailored support for those affected.
Dr Jeremy Isaacs, National Clinical Director for Dementia at NHS England, said:
“Early diagnosis is essential because it allows people to access support quickly and maintain independence and quality of life.”
Innovative Home Monitoring with MinderCare
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has introduced MinderCare, a home monitoring service that detects early signs of changes in health for people living with dementia. Sensors placed on mattresses, household appliances, and doorways track daily routines, medication use, and potential infections. This helps prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and allows care plans to be updated promptly.
Edith, who is living with dementia, said:
“MinderCare helps me feel secure and confident at home, knowing support is available whenever I need it.”
Family Feedback: Peace of Mind
Families have noticed that MinderCare makes caring for loved ones easier.
Kieran Winterburn said:
“The system gives families reassurance because it identifies early changes in health and ensures prompt action is taken.”
Widespread Support Across England
NHS England continues to expand support for people living with dementia. Over the past year:
- 330,460 people received a care plan or review
- 114,447 had their medication reviewed
These checks help ensure that people receive the right treatment and support for their individual needs.
Your Voice Matters
NHS England encourages residents to share their experiences of dementia care. Feedback from people living with dementia and their families is vital in shaping and improving local services across England.
